iPhone mail app doesn’t work, closes automatically after restore

A number of users who have upgraded and jailbroken 1.1.4 are reporting that the Mail application stops working properly after the upgrade and/or jailbreak is complete. These reports of a broken Mail.app come in a variety of forms. For some users, Mail crashes when they attempt to open it. For others, it simply fails to download any new messages. Still, for others, Mail crashes when attempting to read a message.

FIX : Install SyncFix via Installer.app

1. Open Installer and add the iClarified source (http://installer.iClarified.com)
2. Install SyncFix (under dev 1.1.3)

  1. Worked like a charm

  2. Thanks for letting me know. Nice to know it helped you.

  3. And what if we’ve restored a jailbroke phone and the mail app doesn’t work but we DONT want to jailbrake again with 2.0 coming soon?

  4. I found a fix that doesn’t require a re-jailbreak. Like stated, I was using a jailbroken 1.1.4 phone and wanted to restore before 2.0 was released. Mail broke.

Found on the Apple Support forums:
    1. Restore your phone (back it up before restore)
    2. Once phone is restored, the iTunes iPhone welcome screen comes on (set up as new account, restore from previous phone). Leave it alone.
    3. Disconnect the phone. The home screen should pop up. Click on the Mail app. This is where it should have been crashing, but now you can see the logos (Yahoo, GMail, AOL, etc.). Click on one of the icons, then click cancel to get back to the home screen.
    4. Plug in phone. See iTunes iPhone welcome screen again.
    5. Click Restore.
    6. Mail should work now.

  5. You know, I had this problem before and used the method NewSc2 had posted, and it worked like a charm. Today, I forgot to do that when I upgraded to 2.0, installed a bunch of apps, and now I found out Mail is broken. Oh no.

So the issue is still bad

  6. NewSc2:

Thanks, I did that and it worked, now today after installing 2.0 it is doing the same thing all over again. It worked half the day with 2.0 now it wont open…

  7. This method worked great with my 2.0 upgraded phone to fix my broken GMail account. Thanks!!!!

  8. I have a problem that no one seems to be able to solve. Not Apple Cares after 4 calls. Not after a reset of settings, and settings and data. Not even after the replacement of the phone. Everything works perfectly on my iPhone 3G, expect the mail app. I use Outlook via my server at work. I have a large file on the server, if that matters. I add the account and everything works well for a couple hours. Then the email disappears and the mail program hangs up, before returning to the home page. If I delete the email account and start over it is like ground hog day. The email streams in, and then 2 hours later…. This has happened countless times, on both iPhone 3G’s, and no one seems to have a clue. Can you help, before I throw this thing out the window and return to my Blackberry? Thank you.

  9. thank you very much
