How to lock or disable Laptop touchpad – simple ways

So many of us use laptops with touchpad’s, they are very easy to use and sensitive. On some small keyboards, it’s very annoying when we are typing ( using keyboard and external mouse ) and thumb accidently hits the touchpad to move the cursor focus away. Lets look at some options how to disable or lock the Laptop touchpad

Go to Control Panel and double click the Mouse properties icon. In this under the Tapping section you need to Uncheck the option of ‘Tapping’ to make sure that the Touchpad is totally deactivated. This differs from Dell, Sony Vaio, Ibm Thinkpad, Gateway, Compaq, Acer laptops with type of touchpad driver ( synaptics ) installed and type of Windows OS.

Disable in BIOS : Press F2 when your computer boots to enter BIOS settings and Disable Device in the Touch Pad setting.

Use Free Software Apps : Touchpad Pal and Touchfreeze are free Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 app that automatically disables the touchpad when typing text.

On Unix flavors, Use Syndaemon tool to detect keyboard activity and disable touchpad.
